TV & Film and How It Exposed Me to The Greek Life

Big SisterFashionista here sharing how I was introduced to Greek organizations. Growing up in the 80's was not as advanced as it is today. There was no internet. All you had was TV, radio, movies and books/magazines for entertainment. I can remember several TV shows and movies that depicted Greek life.

My first time seeing sororities was on the movie School Daze. Being a little kid I didn't know what a sorority or fraternity even was. All I knew is they both could dance their asses off, they were in cliques and wore corresponding outfits and colors with funny letters on them. LMAO. I also loved watching A Different World and that's where I found out that it was much more to dancing, wearing the same clothes and repping a crew. I found out thanks to everybody's big sister in the 80's Lisa Bonet as Denise Huxtable. Playing her role in The Cosby Show and transitioning into a college student on the spin off A Different World, I learned that sorority and fraternity life came from going to college and getting educated. A Different World showed the world that historical black colleges and Greeks really do exist.

By the 90's and the millennium there were all kinds of TV shows that spotlighted Greek life. The Fresh Prince of Bel Air (love me some Will Smith, I'm doing the Carlton dance just thinking about it. LOL). Then you had my ghetto girls on The Parkers. (How ya mama gonna be in the same sorority as you? I'm just saying, Ghetto Fabulous.) Then you had my girls from the West Coast, like me doing their little thing on Beverly Hills 90210. Also you had Saved by the Bell, which I loved watching.

Movies that also enlighted me were Higher Learning. (Omar Epps use to be my boo. Hell and Ice Cube. LOL) Legally Blonde. (OMG like I totally love this movie. Team Reese Witherspoon) Drumline starring Mr. Mariah Carey, with his cute lil ass. Then you had hilarious movies like one of my favorites, Road Trip! Another hilarious movie is Sorority Boys. Sororites are not just what you see on TV. I've learned from my sisters the beautiful Pi Delta Pi's that it's much more. I am thankful that I have found my sisters that inspire me, uplift me and bring me joy everday. 

My Second Family Pi Delta Pi

Pi Delta Pi has become my extended family in so many ways. I joined few months back but because of real life catching up for a bit I was unable to be around like I wanted. Taking a break was hard but when I came back I was welcomed back into the arms of Pi Delta Pi. I can not thank everyone so much for welcoming and making me feel like I belong. Every moment with each sister is so precious to me. And I can never be prouder to be a Pi Delta Pi Lil Sister. I have learned with in myself that I can trust others, but I just need to find the right people to do so. As Lil Sister Baby I just want to say thank you to all my sisters for being the amazing ladies that you are.

SISTERHOOD

What is the True meaning of sisterhood?

The true meaning of sisterhood is a sense of love and support for one another. Sisters are there when no one else seems to be, and that provides sisterhood with a very close relationship. I get the true meaning of sisterhood being in Pi Delta Pi, I appreciate and love each and every one of my sisters and look forward to getting to know each one of you better everyday... To me this is more like a family, my sister as myself plays a big part when being in PDP and it is shown by everything we do that we follow our principles... 

Real SORORITIES/ SL SORORITIES

Hello BigSisterBuckwild here again to give my opinion on rl soros in comparison to sl soros, I think that typically the intent is for them to operate in basically the same fashion, but in my experience with them, I can see that a lot of sl Greeks do not see it that way. My Soro I am proud of, and there are a few others that stick to the standard of what frats/soros are suppose to be, but there are those that bicker all the time, power struggles, and just plain messy. In my opinion they Greeks are suppose to be about brother/sisterhood, helping the community aswell as helping each other, I wish more of the Greeks of sl would take an example from the real Greeks out there, look at their homepages, read their charters, if you don't know what it is about, or suppose to be about investigate and try to see if you can at least live up to you end of it, if you see someone in your organization that is not doing what they should, don't blast them on fb, problems within your  Greek organization, should be handled inhouse, and posted for all the world to see, there could be someone out that that is watching to see what you are all about, and if that is what they see,( which is the reason I after being on sl for 4 yrs, am just now joining ) then they will think twice, before jumping into what appears to be a really messy situation, so with all this being said, try to live up to the rl greeks way of doing things, not to say that they don't have disagreements, and confusion, but I feel they handle the problems in a completely different way.

Role Model

I one day dream to be a role model, *Smile* I smile because i was told how do i know im not one already? which is true. How do i know, I dont know, But i have plenty of teacher around showing me step to how to beyond a great one. And you may ask who are these Teacher, They are my Sister. Everyone of my sister have somthing unique about them that stick out and that is noticed, like my sister laid back she showing her extra touch in Caring she might not be around but she sure will check up on your i love that about her. I could go on and on about all the different thing my sister are about and how they are my role model, I look up to this group of fine ladies I really do. and i am great to be apart of a great soro group such as this one. So my steps to becoming a role model are in the making lol..

Loyalty...and what it means to me.

Loyalty is not just a word. It is a quality that comes from the heart and the soul. When I think loyalty I think of someone dedicated to something until they take their last breath. It is forever. Something to not be taken lightly. It’s that person that’s there for you no matter what time of the day or night. No matter if they’re busy, tired, or just don’t feel like being bothered. They will always be there for you, not just for the good times. A person that will share the tears and the laughs. Sometimes you may not receive loyalty when you give it. I’ve found out myself the hard way. You should never think loyalty comes from kinships automatically because sometimes family can be disloyal far more than your enemies. Loyalty is almost extinct. So if you have at least one person holding you down and they really are LOYAL, consider yourself lucky and thank God.

WHAT IS LOYALTY????

Hello Sisters, this blog is about loyalty, what it truly is, and what it means to me and different people.
   Webbster defines loyalty as::: the quality of being loyal to someone or something:::, but my question is what does it mean to you?? Loyalty to me means being there for someone, whether they are right or wrong, you let them know that their decision, or actions are wrong, but you still stand beside them, letting them know that you are there for them no matter what, Alot of ppl lose the meaning of loyalty, or maybe they just don't know what it meanz to be loyal to soneone, or something, as Webbster puts it., My suggestion is to look
inside yourself, define what loyalty means to you, see if you are truly being loyal to yourself, your family
your convitions, and your sister or brother hood, you just may find that there are some areas that need a little help, just as I did.

Sorority Soliloquy

I’ve heard it said a sorority
Is a waste of time; but I know better…
For I have seen the love and walked
In the splendor of sisterhood…

Is a dull, selfish place; It can’t be true…

Loyalty

What is Loyalty? In the dictionary loyalty is defined as the quality of being Loyal to someone or something. But for me Loyalty is defined as being dedicated, sincere, devoted, and being there no matter what the circumstances are. To be Loyal is to be understanding, to make compromises that you wouldn't normally make. To give someone or something your all  and not expecting something in return. Sticking to something and not giving up no matter how hard it beats you down. Loyalty is genuine and it can never be replaced if it is given whole hartley. it is never blemished and it will never tarnish because with true loyalty form someone they will never fail you no matter how much you think they will. I want my Pi Delta Pi Sisters to know you have found a Loyal Sister in me and when we go down we go down together.We Ride together We Die Together Sisters for Life (in my Bad Boyz voice)

Sisterly Love

You never know how what a true friend is until you discover a sisterly bond. when you meet a group of women who is concerned about your every being just like you were blood. I have had the privileged to find not only in real life but on Second life a group of young women that I consider to be my sisters. Not only do they care but they will be a shoulder to cry on, lend you a hand when you need it, and a ear to listen when no one else will. I would like to thank each and every sister I have on Second Life not only the Ladies of Pi Delta Pi but other women that I have come in contact with that has taken me under their wing and showed me so much love I thank you. #PiDeltaPi #TeamPrettyGirlz

Stand for Something!

 We have all heard the saying Stand for Something or you will Fall for Anything. That not only the realist statement you will hear, but it also a life factor. For me I chose to stand for what right, and my morals that i strongly believe in. So with that being said that why I stand for Pi Delta Pi, we are a strong group of Ladies that all carry oursevle with respect. We believe in connect with each other, we reach out to other, We are also God fearing Ladies who put God before everything that we do. I stand for my sister because I know they would stand for me.. When we all Stand we Stand for something Great. and when one of us fall I have my strong sister Standing to lift me up. Ladies Take a Stand

Ladies take a stand, we are so much more then what people make of us, We are not just ladies of sex symbols, who exploit our body, see ladies there are other way to get attention, Some of us have kids, or lil brother or sister who may be watching us, and mocking are every move be a light to that child. or whomever watching. Get attention by valuing or mind and bodies. Let the watchers know that there is so much more to me that what the eye can see. We are Ladies and we rule. Standing up for your self right is the best thing you can do for yourself, never let anymore tell you that your less then that because you are great. and if you need someone to let you know that for a little motivation, then Big Sister Hollywood would let you know. So to my sister who is feeling a lil down and feel like giving up. or exploiting your body. take a stand because your beautiful and worth so much more, and you never know who's watching to see you grow up out of what your going though.

 Dedication means being faithful and taking proud in something or someone, see Dedication and Loyatly are like sister you need both. I will say this, we offer dedicate ourselves to something and someone, and get side track now that doesnt mean that there not loyal. there just not as focus on that task at hand. See PDP we pracitice Dedication it one of our strong key charcter which makes up PDP our sisterhood. but as human we sometime Dedicate ourselves to alot of different thing and ended up short handing something else.. but being dedication to my sisterhood should come first, because one thing i know. my sisters are going to be there. we are a family and a lovely group of ladies. Dedication is important, and also needed it show how much something means to you..

Looking in the Mirror

    I sometime get side track of what important to me, I sometime forget that there someone always watching, some watch to see your imperfection, some watch to see you grow. We are leader and sometime I think we sometime don't see it. We offer get judge because we mess up, But I think messing and mistake are a part of life, it help us grow for the ones that may be watching to see. We are all guilty of pointing the finger and sometime judging other, for there fault or imperfection. When we have plenty that we have to deal with our selfs, I pray that my self image get water everyday because i am a growing flower, I learn and I mess up everyday, but that what make me who i am.. perfect of my imperfection. So next time you judge or your watching someone hope that there growing from there mistake or messing up. we are all countable of something so who are we to judge.
